Welcome to a spooktacular Halloween edition of Astronomy News with The Cosmic Companion. This week, we will look at the scariest objects in the night sky, discuss the question of whether alien life coming to Earth would be dangerous, and we have a wicked conversation with Erika Engelhaupt, author of Gory Details: Adventures from the Dark Side of Science.
Aliens attacking Earth is a motif that has frequently seen its way into science-fiction books, movies, and video series. From War of the Worlds to Apple TV’s new series, Invasion, alien life often seems pretty determined to wipe out life on Earth, or at least get themselves some free snacks (and that’s usually us).
